IN AMSTERDAM

Onno took us on his tour of Amsterdam 750. He is a highly skilled guide who tells the history of Amsterdam with erudition and enthusiasm. Onno shared stories with us that even I, as a native Amsterdammer (and historian), didn’t know, including ones about the toll privilege from 1275 and the location of the first dam in the Amstel. Onno is also exceptionally good company. Highly recommended!

Learning from Onno on the site of what once was a vibrant Jewish community allowed me to picture what daily life must’ve looked like for my ancestors. Onno’s kindness in sharing his own family history with students gave us a lens into the prudence Jews embodied in their living in ghettos with very little possessions.

Onno is a very passionate guide who knows a lot of Amsterdam’s history, especially about the Jewish history. We enjoyed his tour on a saloon boat during a team event where he took us past beautiful historic buildings combined with interesting stories and facts. His personal touch to his story made it a special experience and memorable tour. Thank you!
