In the podcast De Joodse Stad (“The Jewish City”), I talk with researcher and podcast maker Julia van de Krieke (University of Amsterdam) about my search into the life and activism of my great-aunt, Tilly de Vries.
It was very special to be able to share Tilly’s story in an episode about exceptional and strong Jewish women. And the fact that we recorded the conversation in the apartment where she lived before being arrested by the Nazis, made it all the more meaningful.
Many thanks to Frederieke van Wijk!

In the podcast series De Joodse Stad, Julia van de Krieke speaks with experts and local residents to bring the stories of Amsterdam’s historic Jewish neighborhoods back to life.
The first season focuses on the neighborhoods of Vlooienburg and Uilenburg, while the second season explores the history of Rapenburg and De Plantage.
Each episode paints a beautiful picture of the diversity of Amsterdam’s “Jodenhoek” (the Jewish Quarter).
You can listen to the episode Fighting for Women’s Rights here (only in Dutch).
